Armour
What every class can wear, from the Elite 1 set at level 68 to Elite 4 at 146 — plus the two Gladiator's Elite sets that exist for one reason only, which is fighting other players.
The short version
One set, seven tiers
SUN’s end-game armour is not a stack of separate sets you replace as you out-level them. It is a single ladder. You acquire the Elite 1 set once, and from there every upgrade is done to the gear you are wearing — awaken it to sharpen it, evolve it to move it up a tier. The name and the artwork change at each step; the item is the same item.
That is why the tables below show two defence numbers. The first is the set out of the box. The second is the same set with all eight pieces taken to +9, which is what people at that tier are actually wearing.
Get a full set
Eight slots — armour, protector, helmet, pants, boots, gloves, belt, shirt. Nothing in the ladder needs a complete set to function; each piece carries its own defence and works alone. The set only matters for the look and, on the battlefield sets, the bonus.
Awaken it, +1 to +9
Awakening adds flat defence on top of the piece's base value, and the steps are steep: a fully awakened piece is worth roughly double an unawakened one. It costs Crystals of Protection at the tier's level, a matching Hephaistos material, and Awakening Additives — more of them the higher the tier.
Evolve it to the next tier
This is the part that surprises people. You do not go and farm the next set — you turn the one you already have into it. An evolution additive for the specific step (E-1 → E-1.5, E-1.5 → E-2, and so on) converts the piece into its counterpart one tier up. The chain runs all the way from Elite 1 at level 68 to Elite 4 at 146.

Choosing between them
Elite or Gladiator’s Elite?
They are not two grades of the same thing. The Elite ladder is the progression: it goes seven tiers deep, ends far above anything the battlefield sets reach, and carries no set bonus at all — its full-set reward is an on-model visual effect.
The Gladiator’s Elite sets stop after two tiers and sit slightly under the Elite set of the same level on raw defence. What they have instead is the only full-set bonus in the game aimed squarely at fighting players: stun and knockdown resistance, a flat cut to damage taken from other players, and a large block of extra SD. In a battlefield those four lines are worth more than the defence gap; hunting monsters, they do nothing.
