Controls & hotkeys

Every key the game gives you out of the box, what it does, and how to change it. Movement is on WASD, the bottom row of your action bar is on the number keys with and without Alt, almost every window has a letter of its own — and any of it can be moved to a key you like better.

Getting around

Moving and the camera

SUN plays from the keyboard and the mouse at once. The keys below move you; the mouse steers the camera and, unless you turn it off, walks you wherever you click.

KeyDoes
W or Move forward
S or Move backward
QStep left
EStep right
A or Turn left
D or Turn right
SpaceJump
Shift+SpaceFlight mode — spread your wings
RAuto run
XSit down or stand up
, or Wheel upZoom the camera in
. or Wheel downZoom the camera out
;Rotate the camera left
'Rotate the camera right
Q and E sidestep; A and D turn you on the spot. The arrow keys are the secondary binding for forward, back and turning, so either hand works.

Click to walk

Left-click the ground and you walk there. If you would rather move only from the keyboard, switch off Click to Move under General Settings in Options. It turns off only clicks on bare ground — clicking a monster, an NPC, another player or a drop still works exactly as before.

Looking around

Hold the right mouse button and drag to swing the camera; the cursor hides while you do and comes back where you left it. Hold the left button and drag instead and your character turns to face the way the camera points. The wheel zooms. Invert Mouse, Move with Camera and Zoom Out — which lets the camera pull further back — are all in General Settings.

Windows

One letter per window

Press the key again to close what it opened. Most of these are also in the main menu, which shows the current key beside each entry — handy after you have rebound a few.

F12 is called System Menu in the key list, but on this client it opens and closes Options. Esc closes whatever you opened most recently, one window per press, and also cancels a ground-target skill you are aiming.

Combat

Targeting, casting and picking up

Targeting is mostly the mouse — click a monster, an NPC or another player to select it — with a handful of keys for when a fight is too busy to aim.

KeyDoes
TabTarget the closest enemy
]Next target
[Previous target
F1Target yourself
F2 to F10Target party members 1 to 9
Shift+F1Select your summoned creature
Shift+5Summon: attack
Shift+6Summon: follow you
Shift+7Summon: attack mode
Shift+8Summon: defence mode
Shift+9Dismiss your summon
Shift+0Summon: Non-PK attack
No keyPick up the drops around you — bind one if you want it
The summon keys only matter to a character with a summoned creature out. Picking up needs no key at all: clicking a drop on the ground picks it up.

Clicking other players

Selecting another player — to trade, invite them to a party or whisper them — depends on Select Other Players in General Settings. It is on by default. If you can click party members and shopkeepers but nobody else, it has been switched off: turn it back on.

Ground-target skills

Some spells land on a patch of ground rather than on a target. Those are cast in two presses of the same key:

  1. 1

    Press the skill’s key

A ring appears on the ground under your cursor and follows the mouse.
  2. 2

Put the ring where you want it

Anywhere in range. The ring is your aim; the monster you have selected does not matter.
  3. 3

    Press the same key again

The spell goes off where the ring is. A left-click does the same. If the cursor is not over the ground — on the sky, or over a window — the press is ignored and the ring stays up, so you never lose the cast by accident.
  4. 4

    Changed your mind?

Esc puts the ring away without casting.

Fast Cast skips the ring

Turn on Fast Cast under Combat Settings in Options (it starts off) and a ground-target skill goes off on the ground under your cursor the moment you press its key — no ring, no second press. It aims at the cursor, not at your target, so you can drop it where nothing is standing yet. Cast from the key rather than by clicking the skill on your bar: with Fast Cast on, the spell lands wherever your cursor is, and when you click the bar that is the bar. If the cursor is off the ground you get the ring as usual.

The action bar

Eighty slots, up to four rows

The action bar holds eighty skills and items in rows of twenty. A new character starts with two rows showing; you can show one, two, three or four.

KeyDoes
1 to 0Use slots 1 to 10 — the left half of the bottom row
Alt+1 to Alt+0Use slots 11 to 20 — the right half of the bottom row
-Change the bar’s height: one row, two, three, four, then back to one
~Switch the bar to its second set of slots (the key left of 1)
No keySlots 21 to 80 — each can be given a key of its own
Right-click a slot to use it with the mouse instead of the key.

Adding rows

The bottom row, with your experience bar along it, is always there. The + button on the bar adds a row on top; once the bar is four rows tall it becomes a that takes one away. With two or more rows up, a small pair of arrows beside it adds and removes the third and fourth. - on the keyboard steps through every height in turn. The bar remembers how tall you left it.

Switching sets

~ moves every row along by twenty slots, so the bottom row — the one your number keys fire — holds slots 21 to 40 instead of 1 to 20. Press it again to switch back. The swap button on the bar does the same. Whatever the bottom row is showing is what 10 and Alt+10 use, so the keys always match what you see.

Twenty keys cover the bottom row, which makes it the row for the skills you press most. The other sixty slots come without keys, so the bigger bar moved none of the keys you already had — give them keys yourself in the key settings, where they are listed as Use Quickslot 21 to Use Quickslot 80.

Chat

Talking to people

Enter opens the chat line and Enter sends it. What goes where depends on the chat tab you have open — or on the character you start the line with, which overrides the tab.

Start withGoes to
%Global — everyone playing, in every zone and channel. Free, no level needed, a five-second pause between lines.
#Your party
$Your guild
&Your chat channel, once you have joined or made one
@Shout to everyone in the zone you are in. Open from level 1; once every thirty seconds.
@@A server-wide shout. Needs a shout item in your bag, and shares the thirty-second wait with @.
!Normal chat, even while another tab is open

Whispers

Type " and the player’s name, a space, then your message. To answer someone who has just whispered you, type /r and the line fills in their name for you.

The Global tab

Anything typed in the Global tab goes to the whole server without the prefix. Global lines also show in your normal tab; the Shout tick in the chat options turns them off there.

Two chat commands

/nextquest

/nextquest

or /nq

Tells you your next story step in the chat: the chapter and how far through it you are, the quest, who hands it out and which map they are on. The Journey entry in the main menu, just under Quest, shows the same thing as a full window.

/autoquest

/autoquest

or /aq

Switches auto-hunting to Auto Questing — main and side quests only, no grinding. It needs the Auto-Hunting Scroll (Full) worn in a cash slot. /autoquest off switches it back.

Your keys

Changing a key

Every one of the 150 actions in the key list can be moved, and each has room for two keys — a main one and a secondary one — so you can keep the default and add your own beside it.

  1. 1

    Open Options

F12, or Options from the main menu.
  2. 2

    Go to the key settings

Options has a key settings tab alongside the graphics and game settings. It lists every action with its main and secondary key.
  3. 3

Click the key you want to change, then press the new one

Combinations with Shift, Ctrl and Alt work — the left-hand ones only. The middle mouse button, the side buttons and the wheel can be bound too.
  4. 4

Watch for a key that was already taken

A key can only do one thing. Give it to a new action and it comes off the old one, and the window tells you which. Put the old action on another key before you move on, or you will be left without it.
  5. 5

    Apply

Nothing changes until you apply. The window also has a button that clears the selected key, and one that puts every key back to its default.

One layout, or one per character

Your keys are saved to your account, so they follow you to another computer. A tick box in the key settings lets you keep a separate layout for each character instead — useful when a caster and a melee class want the same keys to do very different things. Enter is the one key you cannot move: it always opens the chat line.
